Where Statues live and People Die.

I fail to see where our culture figures in this  heroic stunt by the Maharastra government? Some days back there was a great furor created over the unveiling of the statues of Tiruvalluver in Bangalore. It is quite absurd to see the such gross misuse of public money. While people are dying everyday because of lack of medication, food and shelter our government feels, it is a great way of promotion of our culture by making new statutes.
“He is not a dead hero. He is alive in the minds of people who love Maharashtra,” added Awhad.
Yeah, right.... if he is alive in our minds then why do we need him in the sea that too at such a high price tag. In India apparently for everything a statue works as a solution. If you want to make your movie popular erect a statue, if you want to commemorate someone's life or death erect a statue. The human infatuation for erection...I mean erection of statues has reached a new high with the erection of the statue of the first Swine Flu victim in Mexico

Then there are some statues of people who are living but portrayed as dead in their bronze-iron versions. Of course, when it is not your money that is at stake you might as well get statues of all your family members put up ( even may be your family dog), however grotesque the sculpture might turn out to be......

Finally, by doing all this we are atleast doing the avian population in India a favor. We give them a new place to empty their bowels...instead of doing it on our heads....

It's all in the game

The only question i have after reading this is .....
Badminton Association of India (BAI) officials reportedly forgot to e-mail her entry to the organisers on time.
Would this have happened to Cricket in India and for any sport anywhere else????

World of languages

I have been taking some German language training for some time now. I also know a few other languages like Konkani which is also my mother tongue, Kannada, Hindi and English ofcourse. I also got a chance to taste a bit of Japanese as a foreign language and Bengali as the local language when i worked for TCS Kolkata. Also i have some exposure to tulu (being able to talk bits and pieces here and there!!). So having being acquainted with about half a dozen languages makes me wonder sometimes, " How does man ( women too!!) express the same thing in so many different ways". It is quite amazing to see how we all think in different languages the same thing or atleast similar things and coexist as a society. Also, what is more wonderful is that how each of these languages are complex or simple in their own ways.
For example German, i would call it as a language full of exceptions ( Read this from Mark Twain!!). There are as many exceptions as there are rule. But then i think this is applicable for many other languages including English!!....However, we do not realize this so much. If you take Chinese or Urdu here even the way the language is written is different from how many other languages are written ( top to bottom and right to left respectively). What could be the origin and the ideas behind the evolution behind these various form of representation of the Human ideas? However, some languages do not have a script of their own for example my mother tougue Konkani borrows the script from which ever script the speaker is most familiar with.
Next comes regarding the sounds in a language. Can one language represent all possible sounds in a faithful manner? Well this is definitely not true because i know a lot of sounds in Malayalam which i dont think i will be ever able to replicate forget writing them in anyway expect in Malayalam. The best part is that in every language there is some of the vocabalary is always cognate to some other language, usaully the one which is spoken in a geographical neighbor land. I remember when i learnt English not much significance was given to phonetics (You can see that from my pathetic accent of English!!) However, these days many schools are using the phonetics as the basis for teaching rather than using a for apple and b for ball types!!...
Nevertheless, I think it is a nice time-pass to learn a new language. Apparently, it helps in keeping ones brains tuned. So as long as it is fun i think it makes sense for one to learn a language in his free time. It is so sad and silly to see people fighting over language and preference of one language over the other....Each language is unique and has its own beauty..

I want to get over with this!!

I do not know how to handle this. But then i have decided to let this matter just finish.....I hate doing this anymore.
First i get the bike fixed in Kivraj. He says he doesn't have the Mudguard and fixes rest of the things like fork bend etc. I say Ok anyway, I do not like the Kiviraj Bajaj work on my bike ( They did not even fix the mirror that was loose!!). I go to Kalyani Bajaj the dealer who sold me the vehicle. He inspects the vehicle, says that i can claim insurance and give me a bill of 5k out of which about 1.5K i have to bear. WTF!!. Why do i need to pay so much even though i have done nothing. I just feel so frustrated.....and guess what he says, the fork is still bent!!....Now whom to believe and whom not to. This situtation is so hopeless!!....

I have started to trust that ...

Goat rules!!

Friday last week i almost saw the left hand of death when a Skoda did a Shilpa Shetty with my bike. From then I am until now begging and running behind the "Total Environment" guy who did this to me and my bike for the compensation.
Wonder what is so special in this goat that it gets this special privilege ....."When he one hits the goat the driver is thrashed....How I wish i could thrash the fellow who did this to me....Or should i say that human's acted like animals to show their concern for the animal....I wonder!!

"Walk when you Talk!!"

Perhaps after reading this article we might be able to appreciate the
"Walk when you talk"
slogan being sent out by Idea....
People need to get fitter, not just for their own sake, but for the
sake of their families, friends and evidently their pets too.
Imagine one day, PETA sues you for not having taken your dog for a walk which led to his high obesity. From the looks of it i am sure people would soon want phones & TV remotes that can charge on their own. Well then no one needs to bother to even walk to the charging station.
On a serious note it is quite essential for us to look at this problem in a much more serious perspective because only then we can ensure that our future generations can be healthy ( I am saying that looking down and my paunch and trying to hide it by doing some tummy tucking in !! Shame on me!!).
Man somehow is perhaps the only animal which has the knack of destroying himself and the nature at almost the same time and at surprisingly alarming rates.

The Kisser and the Kissee!!

First it was Richard Gere and now the temple priest here. Apparently Ms. Shetty's cheeks seem to have a magnetic effect on men. However, I am sure when we have a serial kisser in Bollywood (read Imraan Hasmi), then how how can the females be left....so we have a serial kissee...??? ( I made up that word!!).

Ubuntu Automount failure

This is a new discovery that i made the hard way. This happened because i use the same set of plugins for Firefox between Windows and Ubuntu. The reason i do this is coz very frequently i switch between the two OS's for various reasons. I have posted here how to do this. However, as it is clear it needs that your C: in windows is automounted in Ubuntu on startup. This is pretty simple and for those of you who like to use the GUI more than the commandline i suggest use of pysdm. You can find more info regarding this here.

However, the problem that happened was that for some reason i had hibernated the Windows partition when during last session. When i opened the Ubuntu partition later i find that the automouting of C: failed and this led to my firefox failing to load because the symlink was now broken. This happens, because when windows hibernates the drive is in a dirty state and this makes the Ubuntu NOT mount the drive. This is true for NTFS & i am not sure if the same is applicable for fat32. More info is available here.

When I ran into a Skoda

OK. I have graduated today to a new high. I had my first accident on my XCD. Thanks to a asshole who was driving his (bosses) Skoda thinking that it were a Ferrari. I ran into this Chez beauty from the side. The bike lost its mud guard, forks and a bit of its engine & I lost my good new bike, My safety record and a day of German class and Work. The disaster is that i couldn't understand how to handle the god damn situation. However,  As of now i lie in the house with a swollen leg, a slighly damaged left arm and a hugely damaged heart. ( For losing my safety record and second for losing the pristine condition of my bike!!).

However, the post is not to tell you about my woes but to tell you something that happened earlier that morning. When i was leaving my house, I hit the wall ( just a hit by the side when i was looking elsewhere). My Mom asked me to come back into the house and sit for sometime and go. Some kind of superstition. I did not go back coz i not willing to just go back sit for while and then get late to my German class. And guess what happens just after some 30 mins from then. I run into a Skoda....btw, I was not at fault. Brake marks on the street could tell you that I had braked as hard as possible to avoid the collision.  This observation some times makes me wonder if the Nature always tries to warn us about what is going to come forth and is trying to tell us to be careful. In Alchemist ( by Paulo Coelho) he talks about how nature shows us signs and signals that we are unable to read & intrepret ( Language of the World). I dont know what to call this but this makes me believe that there are some unknown forces or laws that we still dont understand well, which try to help us and warn us about things. I feel the same when i hear about serendipity based Inventions....Guys someone or something is out there who is helping us. Maybe invisible and may be showing you something right now!!
