NH8 & a glimpse of Rajasthan

Its 366 days since my status changed from "Happily single" to "Happily Comitted" and this called for some celebration. Especially considering the fact that i am still happily married and even my wife agrees that she is enjoying her time with me. It was decided that we will keep it simple considering that both of us didn't want to do something bombastic for this one time.

We Indians love food and it is no surprize that within one country we have so many cuisines. My Wife is a foodie and one thing that is definitely impresses her is if you take her to some place which serves beautiful food. Please note that beautiful food means (1) Food should be good (2) Ambience should be good (3) Place shouldn't be hard to find and far off.

After a quick search on zomato & Hungryzone.com i found this amazing place called NH-8. The place is on the 80Ft road and be reached easily by bus. You can also take the metro and get down at the Vivekananda road stop and do a long walk. It is known for its Rajasthani Thalies. The ambience is great if that is what really moves you. The place is brightly lit and a liberal use of bright colors with paintings that carry you instantly to Rajastan make the whole setup a good place to have your food. If you are one of those who likes to poses (Ramya does) then this place will offer you many a walls in front of which you can give the best of your poses.

The Waiters are really humble and the service is quick. That isn't a surprize considering that all the people there are eating basically the same stuff. Rajasthani Thali. The First thing you notice that the waiters wear a Pagdi (hat) which is similar to what is worn in Rajasthan but is really not up to the mark.

The almost non ending list of things on the thali start the moment the thali is placed in front of you. It starts with the Dal Bhati & Churma followed with chole, Dal, Dhokla, Papad, Imli chutney etc etc. Till you really are done with Dal bhati you will be offered those. Next come the Roti with different dishes including a couple of paneer items. Kadi's will follow. Again you will be forced to have Pulka's & Paranthas till you really feel full. Just when you think you are done, you will be fed with Khicidi with a truck load of ghee, just by looking at which one would gain a couple of pounds. Rice follows. Rabdi follows. It was almost the best Rabdi i have had up until now. Gulab jamun and finally the Pan...And you will feel relieved that finally you are done..

The taste is good and does offer you a glimpse of Rajasthani food. Definitely it makes me want to visit this Rajputana land. Though i am not a great foodie i would recommend this place for anyone who doesn't want to burn a unnecessary hole in the pocket and also get a great experience with nice ambience.
