Satyam Shivam Sundaram

Here Is a the picture of month...courtesy: My brother Karthik

Flexible Electronics

This is going to interest some of the Harry Potter fans. By the latest advancement in flexible electronics seems to have a solution to make the newspapers do a lot more than just show static pictures and text. This probably would mean that we could soon have flexible monitors and various other creative systems which until now where thought of as a difficult proposition because of the rigid nature of the circuit boards and electronic components.

So "The daily Prophet", might just be round the corner.

Loss of speech !!

TOI reported recently about Mr. Rahul Gandhi's missing speech notes.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"A miffed Rahul
insisted that the matter be reported as he was upset over the papers being taken
away, possibly by members of TV crews, who had access to the venue"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is quite surprising that Mr. Gandhi has directly blamed the TV crews. Well I Rahulji, can you please tell us what makes you think that your we are so eager to listen to your speeches even before you want us to listen to them?

Why fashion designers tend to be gay!!

DNA on its 10th page has a report about Michelle Obama (wife of president elect Barack Obama) regarding the dress she is most likely to wear on Tuesday during the Inaugural ceremony of Mr. Obama's presidency.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"The final choice is hers alone. She is mindful of the economic situation is unlikely to wear a $50,000 dress"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wow, that is a staggering figure for a dress. The typical indian in me tells me that even if Ms Obama wears a $10,000 dress it would be about 4.8 lakhs. Now I understand why the movie fashion  portrayed so many gay fashion designers, they definitly would not like lose out on the money they could have made by selling the dresses they design to wives of other poor men ( who are ready to foot bills like $50000) rather than their own!!

Just want to end this in a funny quote by Oscar Wilde

“When a man has once loved a woman he will do anything for her except continue to love her.”

The Slumdog Millionaire

"Wow!! what a movie that was..." is all i could say after watching this movie by name "The Slumdog Millionaire".

It really deserved the four golden globe awards that it won. From the start till the very end the movie provides you with great content and a very true picture of India that lives in Mumbai.

The movie though has got more limelight for being a story about a slumdog who makes it big in the TV programme "Who wants to be a Millionaire", what it truely portrays is the life of a slum dweller in Mumbai. It shows us the true face of our society which is definitly not as rosy a image as we would have liked it to be.

Jamal Malik, the protagonist is accused of cheating when he makes it till the last question ( worth  20 million). The movie starts with the Jamal in a police station being questioned in our own Indian style. No, I am not going to tell you the rest of the story because this definitly isn't a movie review.

The movie highlights a lot of things. The love for Amitabh Bacchan, the cruel nexus of goons who make beggers out of orphans, the sad state of affairs in our society when it comes to communal riots and finally love that can make a man go to any extent.

Yeah, if you listen to the questions it does add to your GK also!!....

The work by the child artists Ismail, Ayush and Rubaina is also extremly commendable.

The background music from A R Rehman at crucial times in the movie creates the right environment for the viewer to feel the scene being enacted......

All in all it is a must watch movie......

New Phrase - "Temp Lay-Off"

The global meltdown has been making news since Lehman brothers declared bankruptcy. One new feature that i noticed is that it has given rise to a bevy of new words or at the least created a new awareness amongst people with respect to these words. In fact the world "Bailout", was chosen as the word of the year 2008.

A new word or rather a phrase that is being churned out in many companies is "Temp Lay-off". The meaning of the word is something like ..." The employees are requested to go on a vacation for one to four weeks without pay". Instead of having a complete Lay-off as in many cases, in this case the employee gets to keep his job but can go on "Leave without Pay" for a stipulated period of time.

Though some see this as a threat and the first step before the layoff, i tend to believe that some companies are really concerned about the loss of trained staff and are trying to everything possible to retain them in the troubled times.

Oh how can i forget mantriji's contribution on this one...

The party president asked Mantriji to layoff either one of the two workers, either Rita or Jack. Mantriji decided that whoever he sees first he will lay them off....

Unfortunately or fortunately, he meets Rita first....

Seeing her Mantriji said...

"Rita, I have a very difficult decision to make. I either have to Lay You or Jack off."

Pat came the reply from Rita, " Hey go ahead and jack-off, u jerk..."

You can find more on Mantriji here [1]

Satyam fiasco - The biggest loss is the trust we had built over the years!!

The news that grabbed the front pages from most of the newspapers and news channels is the Satyam Fiasco. Infact, people have almost forgotten the Indo-Pak debate and the defiance shown by our neighbour in admitting the role in the terrorist attacks at Mumbai.

However, what grabbed my attention was this. Not the article itself but the comments that some people had provided.

One comments goes like ---

"It is a well-known fact that the Telugu people are
all fraudsters. Don't believe their education and qualifications.
Everything is for sale in gultistan
"

Though the above statement is something that was written in utter frustration by someone, what i observed is that just by one man deeds a whole community could be harmed. I am not talking in context of AP'ites or Telugu people but the whole IT faternity.

I am quite sure that even companies like TCS, Infosys and Wipro will now be under stricter scanners by their potential customers. A thousand assuarances from bigwigs cannot really bring back the the trust which takes years to build. India still remains to be the cheapest option for most of the software services, however the level of trust that many reputed MNC's carried in Indian firms has definitly taken a beating.

Also, what has taken is a beating is evident from the comment i mentioned above. People would think twice before dealing with a company coming out of Hyderabad or for that matter AP on a whole.

Thankfully, so far no one commented saying that this a small incident!!

I just hope the best for Satyam.....

Alls well that ends well......

When the truckers go missing!!

It is at times like this i feel that we should have a government like that of China. I am talking about the fuel crisis caused by the strike by truckers and further fueled by the nationwide strike by oil PSU officers. In China, the government is so powerful that such strikes which effect the economy, industries and citizens of the country in general would have led to far stronger action by the government to curtail the problem.

Ofcourse, the Indian government is planning to use ESMA to do damage control. However, the prices of fruits, vegetables and other essential commodities have been going northwards after the shortage started due to truckers strike.

It is quite obvious that we cannot completely have a backup for all type of strikes and agitations that come up in the country. However, It is absolutly necessary that we have some mechanism or task-force that gets into immediate action in such situations to nip the problem right at the bud.

Right now we can only hope that the strike ends soon.......

Just before i close i would like to quote the words i heard from my friend Ravi Shankar ( I dont know where he heard it from!!)

"You can NOT get different results by doing the same thing again and again"

I strongly tend to believe in this statement....more often then not we try to do the same stuff and the problem keeps reoccuring time and again!!...

Mantriji - On why is there so much corruption!!

During one of my recent browsing spree i came across the following post. The post reminded me of a old joke which goes like this.....

During an interview, Mantriji was asked the reason for so much corruption and why ministers were gobbling up taxpayers hard earned money.....for which pat came the reply from Mantriji...

" Bhaiyaa, during elections we spend so much to buy the votes...we need to get reimbursed in some way ki nahi!!"

Though funny, it just shows that in a country like ours where more than 300 million people live below the poverty line, the idea of buying votes is definitly a no-brainer....
